Editorial, July 24 2009 When politicians say the word "What is good for America ."------------------------------- What America are they referring to? Is that pertaining to the America that is represented around the world by the signs of Kentucky Fried Chicken, Starbucks, and McDonalds? .. Is that pertaining to the America that is travelling through space making mankind proud and us proudest, tough it cost us an arm and a leg? .. Is that pertaining to the America represented by Rocky, Clint Eastwood and Indiana Jones? Or are they referring to the worker that goes every morning to work and which pocket paid for all that adulation? .. Or maybe they are referring to the poor American soldier that lost an arm or a leg in a foreign war or because he did not have the proper insurance to pay for good medical care? It create doubts since seldom, excepting election days, I hear about wages, insurance, mortgages, car payments, unemployment, child school, and that sort of expenses that drive many people to the closest bar and the convenience market looking for the hopeful and evasive lotto tickets. The only talks is about how big our country is, how powerful our country is, how many people came from around the world and realized their dreams in our coasts. There is a lot of true about that, but is no less true that we grow up watching the media screaming about a lot of people triumph, many of them with strange names, everyday, every hour, every moment. Not way to escape the great people that have been stipulated in us like heroes by the press, the school, the media, society. Generals, patriots, inventors, musicians, dancers, sports people, politicians, lawyers, gangsters, cheaters, dummies, abusers, perverts, everyone that did o do something in which the media shows interest became a de facto raw model, important, millionaire or (like in many cases) a convict. Everybody knows our famous or infamous people. In the good side inventors that made life more comfortable like Mr. Edison and Mr. Franklin been the best example for our kids, in the other hand they are famous criminals that, thanks to the nobility of the media, are passing in society like heroes. That media that can not use the excuse of illustrating the public since the most appreciated inventors of all times in relation to comfort (by popular consensus since most people do not need biased polls and can just ask anybody else) were practically unknown until the advent of the Internet: Dr. John Gorrie and the engineer Willis Haviland Carrier, the alleged inventors of the ice machine and the air conditioning. Is time for us to make clear to our leaders that we are not all music, cinema or war personalities. Maybe they, the overcrowded government and the people that they see everyday in TV, feel like such, but We the People, the big majority, is not. Most of all have to put eight hours work in some factory, store or sweaty endeavor. All for a salary that does not cover the everyday increasing cost. Certainly the war in Iraq, the augmenting of advertising displays of all those multimillion companies around the world and the success of super machos movies are things that will increase a few entrepreneur pouches, but do not help to the solutions of our personal conflicts, in most cases it does increase our tribulations. President Obama try explaining that the Universal Insurance (or whatever name it has) will not increase the budget. Very nice Mr. President, I am sure you are trying your best and we support your effort the best way we can, but keeping with questions What about if it does? Do that mean we are not entitled to it because there are not money? What makes a nations great? It is what it accomplished outside its territorial limits? The pride that its people feel about it? The opinion of the outsiders? The amount of money in their arcs? The immigration? The territories that it occupies? The history? The amount of citizens? The size of their armies? In history we have or had very big nations for any of those standards. Or is the way that (the majority) of its citizens feels with relation to their country? All those politics talks are demagogy that have been used since Cicero till our days, in every country in the world the same words are repeated. No matter if used for elections or for imposing wills. In the say of every dictator, king, president, etc. when referring to theirs, every nation is the best, the greatest, the richest, the cream of the cream aside the fact that at the moment of the speech, probably, they are in a little black hole to be expunged (by promising) in the near future. If France, Italy, San Marino, Andorra, Malta, Singapore, Spain, Oman, Austria, Japan, England, Canada, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Brazil, Chile, China, Cuba, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Iraq, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Venezuela, Ukraine and others, can have universal free medical care for their people and we do not .. How can we call ourselves the Greatest? My dear people, if there are money to pay those expensive and non immediately return on investment trip to the space, it better be money for health and medical care. If there is money to sustain bases around the world, with medical facilities and all kind of freebies, it better be money for health and medical care. If there is money to pay 55 millions to an actor that gives a bad name to our country with his stupid actions in film, it better be money for health and medical care. If there is money to pay 50 millions to some guy to beat the hell out of another person just for entertainment, it better be money for health and medical care. If there is 30 millions to pay a guy for running a car expending gas and polluting the air without going anyplace just for entertainment, it better be money for health and medical care. If there is 20 millions to pay a guy for hitting and catching a ball, that must of us do it for free, just for entertainment, it better be money for health and medical care. If there is 15 millions to pay for a guy with a ball under the arms, that he abandon anyway at the end of the road just for entertainment, it better be money for health and medical care. If there is 15 millions to pay for a tall guy depositing a ball inside a basket just for entertainment, it better be money for health and medical care. If there is so much money, for not worthy cause, for people hitting balls with sticks, kicking balls and other kids stuff, and all that just for entertainment, sorry to burst your bubble people but, it better be money for health and medical care for everybody. Otherwise they are a lot of people boasting garbage in the media and you know what I mean. Bye |
