Like Yoany González became part of World History A Len Zayas editorial.-
We give our congratulations to Yoani Sánchez for winning a prize, probably well deserved, about his journalistic endeavors. We, honestly, wish the best of the best to this lady that, surprise, can survive the oppression that, so they say, suffocate everybody that opposes and (or) criticize the almost half century, Cuban regime. His page, full of the Cuban realities, bland realities since she has not Carte Blanche to speak at his leisure everything that most opponents will enjoy to hear toward the military authority that controls that territory, formerly occupied by Spain, USA, USSR and now in the gate for the Bolivar's Union. Nobody is allowed to openly touch the panic button of the so called leadership of the pro-independence movement of Latin America, furthermore Yoani does the best she can, despite having to came from behind the narrow door of the Cuban Usenet so openly and bare-faced called "Internet", when it will be more popular accepted under the name "Courtyard-Internet" as Ortega and Gasset will, probably, could have described. So we are obliged to congratulate, also, the censor in turn for allowing some stuff to get to the other side, even though, it could be a product of boredom, tiredness or drunkenness of the responsible official in safeguarding the integrity of the government, however, we appreciate his oversight. She deserve a prize, who cares what or how. A trip to Spain, a week in Varadero, two days in the Hilton, anything is welcome. The poets have their chances already, like Raul Rivero did, Buenavista Social Club have a Ball, almost all retired artists and military people are enjoying vacations, TV appearances and the like, mostly in US, Spain and France. The more timid go to Sweden. Some sort of icy hell, works like a purgatory. Decent people, I guess. Everybody enjoys visiting empires, most people envy the fruits of exploitation. Former fighters more than any, I believe they call it "battle fatigue syndrome", human nature, I think. You screw people to the end of their resistance for a cause and you keep some of your own energy so later you can go and claim some reward for betraying that cause, expecting your former enemies to appreciate your sacrifice with palms and gold. You do not even feel obliged to say "I'm sorry, I was wrong". It pays to defend the poor, you lost faith in them and then you can go to the rich asking, better say claiming, your rights for some considerations because you are been in the short end of the stick. Of course you are also bargaining for in the long run getting the anal-ogy one, sticked one, reserved for dreamers and patriots without frontier. Even the Internet famous Five prisoners have a decent meal everyday and enjoy cable TV when more of the inhabitants of the First Free Territory of America, so they say, have not. It was time for a reporter to have his/her dog day. The precious Ortega y Gasset prize, the Spanish equivalent to the Pulitzer Prize (close enough). I am glad is a Cuban, a woman and (maybe?) a dissident, be the one that will enjoy the award....Not that I will take it, if give it to me (the prize, I mean) First because if I were there (opposing that is) it will be not only the present tyrants, but will be every one S.O.B. that E V E R abused, besmirched o roughshod anyone of my fellows countrymen or countrywomen. (lucky for me I am not. I'm in the opposite side of the puddle, what is obvious, otherwise.. How can I be writing this way?... English without barrier like the famous advertising claims... That also claim: "Get respect understanding English"... (only people with shackle in the ankles will believe that expresion or maybe people from Arizona) If I were there, I repeat, in Cuba, opposing and criticizing not only the lack of food and movements, foreign tyrants and oppressing dictators, but also all kind of internal abuse and dominance, I will never could accept a prize coming from Spain, or from Russia or from USA. Spain with more reason than any other. *Galleguiland (I do not care if Ortega, or the Catholic Queen or the father of José Martí came from there) besides of been a country that for so many years slaved my former fatherland, is also the land of Velázques, Narvaez, Weyler, Crespo, Balmaseda, all the *** Spanish Voluntary Corp, (and probably the lovey-dovey Dr. Ramiro Guerra y Sánchez that shows so much afection for invaders and criminal's assistants). That place[Spain], not having enough with finishing with the aborigine population, they add offense to injury (new style) when they start to loose their grip on the island. In a gesture of cowardly attitude and contempt toward the mambises, sold out our land to the incipient American Imperialism, besides other places, pretending to fell for a war as false and convenient as the ones from Vietnam or Iraq. They, both, sacrifice their own people. USA lost the lower rank people of the "Maine" but gain close to 3000 miles of prime real estate. Spain lost his obsolete armada but got enough gold like to rebound from the bankruptcy in which the occupation of Philippines, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Cuba sinked them. Cuba was bleeding the Spanish coffers, not only the war surplus for the army and volunteers were beyond the capabilities of the obsolete kingdom but also the war for independence was causing lost in the rich sugar production. Spain was having an early Christmas with the end of the Pan-American war, not only they free their resources but also got other fringe benefits, at Cuban's expenses. From the American point of view, Puerto Rico and Hawaii were tagged to became states and Philippines were prepared to be sold to the best offer. Probably Japan. So no problem in that area, but Cubans had historically caused problem because the extense spanish physics insemination and the subtleness of the language. The English fail miserably in their conquest of Cuba, their stretch in Havana were sufficient bad experience for the imperial juniors apprentices as not to take a long control in consideration. The ruling class of Spanish's descendants society in Cuba was profoundly imbued in occupation commerce a priory of the fast and convenient 'emancipation'. So they inspired a veil of fraternity and confidence in the mambí army which welcomed, not only the usurpers of the revolution, but a myriad of new oficers without experience with the machete (in fact they never were in any fight or barrack) but very experienced with the pen and business transactions. Years later the history will repeat itself. The poor former slave, worker and peasant already have enough problems with the Cervantes twists and turns and those spirals problems did became compounded with Shakespeare. The United States of America signed the Paris Treaty which considered everything that Spain was controlling like USA property after the States pay 20 million dollars to the Crown. So much for balancing free trade with justice, freedom and democracy. They make the people believe, including the American congress, that some sort of Commonwealth will be created that will obliterate the hot Cuban temper and his people inclinations for resolving problems with the machete. (Eusebio Leal is crying) And all under the approval of the Cuban population. ¿But what population?. From the Paris Treaty between United States of America and the Spanish Crown: "Spanish subjects, natives of the Peninsula, residing in the territory over which Spain by the present treaty relinquishes or cedes her sovereignty, may remain in such territory or may remove therefore, retaining in either event all their rights of property, including the right to sell or dispose of such property or of its proceeds; and they shall also have the right to carry on their industry, commerce and professions, being subject in respect thereof to such laws as are applicable to other foreigners..." Only adults white males Spaniards were allowed to vote when the island became a republic, Spaniards that has been members of the occupation troops were given citizenship and permitted to keep the properties that they stole from the (mixed) Cuban born population, a population that were denied education, and since they hardly can read, the Cubans have to honored the American Constitution (American Constitution?) that does not allowed women, blacks and illiterates to have a saying in the country destiny. Better yet, all this was part of the occupation agreement with the mother***land. The mambi army was too tired, confused and mislead to rebel in 1898 ** Fidel Castro (by American standard not a Cuban but a first generation Spaniard-Cuban) always make look in his humongous speeches that the selling of the country was a crime committed, only, by the neighbor from the north. The big hero never took a clear position (not that he do that for an habit) in the complicity and instigation of Spain, (it takes two to tango) just because he feel some devotion to the land of his mother and father. And thanks to the leader of your soil, my dear Yoany, in the near future the *** Spanish motherland will own a big chunk of the land that one long time back in history owned completely. Waiting for the inevitable and hallowed international commerce, independent of local political situations or philosophies, will result according to international trade laws. For respect towards that sacred treaty between powerful nations in one side and captivated ones in the other, Cuba, the Pearl of Antilles, will still a chunk of Spain. And whatever is left will be auctioned between the ones that are already in the adquiring business: China and England, with Italy and Canada also making a good profit with the sale to USA. I disagree with Maria Teresa Vera, is not that this time we lost, I think we are perpetual losers. So there you have a prize Yoany, and perhaps Raul Rivero, that modern mambí, will write a poem for you, extolling the beauties of the ***motherland, the glory of been free and the brilliant future of the country that was left behind as soon that the appendix of Spain left his sold out home. Of course he [Rivero] will not call Raul Castro an appendix of Spain. He did not learn yet the surgery of history. And the Spanish Crown, or their pigeons, knightly give a prize to one victim of their abuses, without been sure why or for what. Is not clear to me. Can you tell? Do not allow me to spoil your joy my dear Yoani, but when the gratitude invade your senses stop and think in your own security. They can give you a piece of wood, or metal or whatever, but they will never risk a finger to help you or your ideas of freedom, just remember the saying:: "All famous prizes are political" the bla-bla-bla of presentations is just plain bull. At least you are a OK person, in the other hand remember that Nixon and Kissinger received a Nobel prize for their love for peace, so did Garcia Marquez for writing what he does not understand, and all this in the name of the guy that invented dynamite, and Idi Amin got it from some group that escape my memory, a prize for paternally love. What else can I say, Welcome to humanity and enjoy the propaganda! ----------------- * land of Galician **historically this was repeated in 1959 with the rebel army and the communist ***Explicit deleted by the author in deference to educators jun/07/08 reviewed sep/09 (c)2008 lenzayas.com reproduction is permitted as far as the origin is cited any comment write to: editor@lenzayas.com |
